Im <a href="Plural" title="Plural">Plural</a> wurde <i>Dingir</i> gedoppelt und als <i>Dingir-Dingir</i> verwendet.

</p><p>Als <a href="Determinativ" title="Determinativ">Determinativ</a> vor den jeweiligen Begriffen wurde <sup>DINGIR</sup>, kurz <sup>D</sup>, zwar geschrieben und gelesen, aber nicht ausgesprochen. In der Umschrift von Keilschrifttexten werden Determinative wie Dingir hochgestellt, um sie als solche zu kennzeichnen.

</p><p>Das Determinativ Dingir wurde nicht für Gottheiten verwendet, die mit AN beginnen, da AN als <a href="Logografie" title="Logografie">Logogramm</a> allgemein für <i>den Himmel</i> verwendet wurde und den höchsten <a href="Gott" title="Gott">Gott</a> <i><a href="An_(Gottheit)" title="An (Gottheit)">An</a></i> als <i>Vater der Dingir-Dingir</i> (<i>Vater von allem Göttlichen</i>) repräsentierte. Nach der sumerischen Mythologie war alles göttlich, was mit AN im Zusammenhang stand.

</p><p>Als <a href="Sumerogramm" title="Sumerogramm">Sumerogramm</a> wurde <i>DINGIR</i> in späterer Zeit beispielsweise in der <a href="Akkadische_Sprache" title="Akkadische Sprache">akkadischen</a> und <a href="Hethitische_Sprache" title="Hethitische Sprache">hethitischen Sprache</a> verwendet. Sumerogramme waren bis zum 1. Jahrhundert v. Chr. in Gebrauch.
